LinkedIn for M&E contractors: getting in front of the people who award the work

The people who decide who prices an M&E package look you up before they send the invitation. Make your profile answer their questions, and keep your real projects in front of them.

Updated MOJO.ME

In short

  • Your profile is a reference check. In five seconds it should say what you do, for whom and where.
  • Spend your connections on the few people who award the work.
  • Post real projects twice a week, and count invitations to price rather than likes.

Profile and page

  • Headline: what you do, for whom, and where. “Mechanical and electrical for schools and offices across Surrey.”
  • Banner: your own plant room or riser. Never a stock skyline.
  • Featured: your three best projects.
  • A company page to match, with up to six strong posts featured at the top.

The people who matter

  • Buyers, estimators, commercial managers and QSs at main contractors.
  • Facilities and estates managers at councils, trusts, schools and landlords.
  • M&E consultants, who write the specifications.
  • A free account gets five personal connection notes a month. Save them for the people who matter most.

What to post, and how to start a conversation

  • A finished plant room, and the problem it solved.
  • A first-time sign-off, and who made it happen.
  • An apprentice qualifying, the crew at handover.
  • Open with a question about their job. Never a pitch.
Hi Sarah, saw you’ve started on site at the Woking academy. Are you running the M&E as one package or splitting it? We price it both ways for a few contractors round here.

You run the jobs. We run this.

  • Your profile and company page rebuilt around your own photography
  • Two or three posts a week from a ten-minute call, each approved by you
  • A weekly list of the PMs and QSs worth knowing, with the first message drafted
  • Comments and messages answered within the hour

Written for M&E contractors, electricians, air conditioning firms and construction companies.

Questions owners ask.

Should I post as myself or as the company page?

Both. Your profile reaches the people you know. The company page is what a buyer checks to judge whether the firm is established.

Do I need LinkedIn Premium?

Not to start. Premium lifts the limit on personal connection notes. Consider it once you are regularly running out.

Can I post photos from a client’s site?

Only with permission. Some clients and main contractors do not allow it, and a photo of an identifiable person is personal data.
