The Mojo Audit

Hartley M&E, Guildford. The Mojo Audit.

Thirty-nine years of good work and a van people recognise. Online, the firm has barely moved since 2016: a one-page website, a Google profile nobody looks after and a LinkedIn page with fourteen followers. The work has not stopped. It has started going somewhere else.

The document.

We ask every firm the same three questions. Can people find you? What happens when they get in touch? And do the people who award work remember you?

Found

Where the firm is when someone looks.

Page four for "commercial electrician Guildford".

High
What we saw
Position 38 on Google for the search a facilities manager types. Page one is three directories and two younger firms. The site has one page, no service pages, no area pages, and was last changed in 2016.
What it costs
The facilities managers who type that search ring someone on page one. Every week it stays like this, those calls go to the directories and the two younger firms.
The fix
A page for each service and each town, written for a person and illustrated with the firm’s own photographs. The Google profile and reviews looked after every week. Be found

A Google profile with four photos and nine unanswered reviews.

High
What we saw
Last post 2021. Twenty-three reviews, nine with no reply, two of them one star and unanswered for a year. Opening hours say closed on Saturday; the van is out every Saturday.
What it costs
The profile is what people see on the map and on their phone. At the moment it tells them nobody is home.
The fix
Hours and services corrected on day one. Photos from the next three jobs. Every review answered in the firm’s voice, and Mojo asking every customer for a review when a job is signed off. Be found

Answered

What happens when someone gets in touch.

An enquiry at 19:12 on a Friday, answered at 08:40 on Monday.

Highest
What we saw
We sent a test enquiry through the website form and a WhatsApp to the number on the van. The form reply came Monday morning. The WhatsApp was read on Saturday and not answered.
What it costs
Research on 2,241 firms found those that replied within the hour were nearly seven times as likely to reach the decision maker. Sixty hours later, the customer has had a whole weekend to book someone else.
The fix
Mojo on WhatsApp, the website and missed calls, replying within forty seconds in the firm’s voice, asking for photos and a postcode, and booking the survey. The owner approves every reply until he decides he does not need to. Never miss a lead

A website that takes eleven seconds to load and offers a phone number.

High
What we saw
Eleven seconds on a phone on 4G. No booking, no way to send a message, no prices, no photographs of work. The contact page is a phone number and an address.
What it costs
People arrive on their phone in the evening, often from a recommendation, find nothing they can do at that hour, and go back to the search.
The fix
A rebuilt website: fast, organised around the questions people arrive with, with booking built in, Mojo answering every message and the firm’s own work on every page. A website that books the job

Remembered

Whether the people who award work think of the firm.

A LinkedIn page with fourteen followers and a director whose headline says "Director".

Medium
What we saw
The company page last posted in 2023. The director is connected to two of the eleven project managers and quantity surveyors on the frameworks the firm wants. None of the last three projects appears anywhere.
What it costs
Commercial work is awarded by people, and people remember the firm that turned up in their feed last week. Hartley last turned up in 2023.
The fix
Profile and page rebuilt around the real projects. Two posts a week in the owner’s voice from a ten-minute call. The right PMs and QSs approached with a genuine question about their work. LinkedIn that wins work

No photograph of the last three projects exists.

Medium
What we saw
A plant room fit-out, a school rewire and an office air conditioning install, all finished this year, none photographed. The newest picture of the firm’s work is from 2018.
What it costs
With no pictures, the firm has nothing to post and nothing to put in front of a buyer or a tender panel.
The fix
One morning on the next job with a camera: twelve posts, a ninety-second film and a library of stills the firm owns outright. Social and content

The fixes, in order of what they are worth.

  1. 1
Answer every enquiry in forty seconds

Three enquiries a week are going cold. At an average commercial job, that is the biggest number on this page.

    Never miss a lead
  2. 2
    Rebuild the website around booking

Every other fix sends people to the website. When they arrive, they need to be able to book.

A website that books the job
  3. 3
Page one for the ten searches that pay

Eight to twelve weeks of work that keeps bringing in enquiries long after it is done.

    Be found
  4. 4
    LinkedIn in the owner’s voice

The framework work the firm wants is awarded by eleven people. Two of them know the firm exists.

    LinkedIn that wins work
  5. 5
One site visit a month, photographed

One morning feeds the website, the Google profile, LinkedIn and the tenders.

    Social and content

The film.

Ninety seconds that say what the document says, for the person who will not read it. Send it to a partner, a bank or a son who runs the office. Captioned, so it plays on a phone in a van.

The redesign.

The firm’s own website, rebuilt around booking and the questions people arrive with, watermarked and live. Click through it on your phone. If the firm says yes, the watermark comes off and it goes live under their name.
